The Antlers - The Power of 3 - Montreal February 17/'10

In an unsuspecting venue on Montreal's West end a concert took place that will forever stand out. No sign hanging outside Il Mortre, just simply the numbers 179 stuck on the door welcomed in these Ontario natives. We were a little unsure as to what we walked into, but when opening band Golden Isles strummed their first chord, we knew this was exactly where we needed to be. Being in front of a home crowd, Golden Isles certainly set the mood for a Wednesday night. Confident and comfortable at home, this band was bouncy and energetic. With faux plants set up on their keys, New York based band The Antlers took the stage next with a new album titled Hospice.

By no means was this a set you wanted to start frolicking around to, but the craftsmanship involved in each song was absolutely outstanding. You can imagine from its title that Hospice is a meaningful record with much to say. Perfectly portrayed between the power of just three members; as an audience you were completely captivated. Electric, euphoric, cathartic - just a few words I'd use with sheer silence in between songs the entire performance was beautiful. The only live concert that seems to come close in comparison is Do Make Say Think, The Happiness Project and Years I saw in December (which deserves an entire review on its own)with the same energy. I'd encourage you to check out a great video that really captures this band through the take away shows site. Enjoy!!
